What is Homestay?

Homestay is providing a unique cultural experience where you (the Host) need to make available furnished bedroom(s) in your home to host young guests (international students or young visitors). The living environment at your home must be safe, clean and comfortable. English language must be the predominant language spoken while your guests are present in a room with you. You are also expected to provide internet access and most daily meals to your guests. Guests need to be served and eat their meals, while at your home, together with your family members and never be separated from your family members at least during dinner. You are expected to help your guests learn about Australia and Australian customs and traditions. Homestay's revenue is tax-free (for up to 2 guests in your home - see ATO link for details).There is an estimated 20,000 homestays in Australia.
